Event Description
As players progress along their chess careers, they tend to become more intuitive. Their increased knowledge of the game means they can play reasonably well based on instinct, and this is especially true with respect to players that play a lot of online blitz. During a lockdown, that means almost everybody! It is very rare for a strong player to make an obvious mistake that completely defies any logic or reason according to conventional chess understanding. The mistakes they make usually are sensible, good looking moves that have some kind of concrete flaw or are based on an unrealistic evaluation. Throughout this camp, GM Shankland will look at lots of cases of good players making natural, intuitive looking moves that are wrong, but not easy to punish. Lessons 1-2: Direct refutations. Lessons 3-4: Overestimating chances/exploiting unrealistic optimism Lessons 5-6: Underestimating counterplay/seizing control when under pressure Lessons 7-8: Flawed plans/letting an opponent hang themselves.

Misc Info: 8 90-min lessons (total 12 hours) on Wednesday - Jan 6,13,20,27, Feb 3,10,17,24 2021 4:30PM PST – 6:00 PM PST (90 min) Lectures and homework will target USCF 2300+ level. Recommended for peak USCF 2300+ players
